We are a biotechnology company that uses our proprietary expertise in delta receptor chemistry and pharmacology to discover, develop and commercialize a broad range of novel drug candidates. We were founded in 1995 with technology licensed from Glaxo Wellcome plc. Built on the discoveries of our founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Kwen-Jen Chang, during his 26 years of research at Burroughs Wellcome Co and elsewhere, we believe we are the worldwide leader in discovering and developing delta receptor compounds. Our research demonstrates that the stimulation of the delta receptor has broad pharmacological impact in several medical conditions representing large potential markets, including moderate-to-severe pain, urinary incontinence, premature ejaculation, depression and cardioprotection. We believe we have created a product platform that addresses areas of significant medical need through the application of our delta receptor expertise. We currently have one product in Phase II clinical trials, one product in Phase I clinical trials, and we plan to file Investigational New Drug applications (INDs) for five additional products during the next 18 months based on the promising preclinical results that we have obtained in these indications.
Our chemists and pharmacologists, building upon their combined 70 years of delta receptor research experience at Burroughs Wellcome and Glaxo Wellcome, have created an extensive, pharmacologically targeted library of compounds with specific activity at the delta-, mu- and kappa-opioid receptors. We believe these compounds represent the most comprehensive proprietary chemical library of delta and other opioid receptor ligands currently available. We believe we have the expert chemistry and pharmacology capabilities to fully develop these delta receptor compounds from synthesis through proof of concept and ultimate commercialization.
